IAlthough
not the beginning of the band, this is my version of the history of
Dead End Stare. In 2004 I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow extreme
sports junkie while wakeboarding. After the conversation turned to
music and guitars, she mentioned that her boyfriend had a band. After
seeing these guys a few times I was intrigued by their original style
and energy. I was eventually invited to come over and jam with them.
Well one thing led to another and after playing a few songs at some
shows and learning a whole new genre of music I was invited to join the
band. At that time they were a 3 instrument band with John J-5 Jones on
lead vocals. Adding a second guitar opened us up to a new range of
material and bigger sound.
After a couple years of steady
gigs, much fun, and many a tale the direction of the band was in
question. John decided to leave an pursue other interests. A long and
tiresome search began for a new lead singer. After coutless prospects,
a couple of promising candidates and even a gig or two with some new
voices we were once again left without a lead vocalist. It was at this
point I decided to learn the words and give it a try myself. At least
we could practice and have some fun while we were trying to get
something together. It took quite a while but we are back and ready to
rock again!
It's been a couple years now and to accomadate
my vocal range the band has had to make a slight change in direction.
We do a bit more classic and southern rock these days than the more
alternative style of J-5 but today the band is tighter than ever and
again booking steady gigs. If you're looking for a good night of varied
musical style come check us out. You won't be disappointed.
